Porsche finally achieved it's maiden victory at Le Mans in 1970 with the awesome 917, however it was the Porsche Salzburg entered team of Attwood and Herrmann that prevailed and not the much fancied John Wyer Gulf Porsche 917's. The image depicts the 4.5 litre short-tail car of Attwood exiting the Esses in atrocious weather conditions. Following are the 917LH's of Elford/Ahrens and Larrousse and Kauhsen, the latter, complete with psychedelic paint scheme was to eventually finish second.
