Co driving his own car along with Rolf Stommelen and Paul Newman, Dick Barbour took the 935/77A to victory in the IMSA category and a fine 2nd place overall at Le Mans 1979. Here the car is leading the No.11 Ford M10 of Bell, Hobbs and Schuppan and the No.15 De -Cadenet Lola T380 of Raymond, Phillips and Mallock. The Essex Motorsport entered Factory Porsche 936's were favourites for the race, however neither car managed to finish, leaving the trusty 935 variant to uphold Porsche honour.
